Ricky "Scrap Iron" Koenig, Sr.

Ricky L. "Scrap Iron" Koenig, Sr., age 70, resident of the town of Franklin, Kewaunee County, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 19, 2024.

Ricky was born in Manitowoc on January 18, 1954 to Leo and Betty (Otto) Koenig and has been a lifelong area resident. He was a 1973 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School and was united in marriage to Karlene Linden on August 3, 1974 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. The couple would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this August. Rick was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 139 and worked as a heavy equipment operator his entire life. He retired from Northeast Asphalt in 2009.

Rick lived for the outdoors and tinkering around his yard. He loved working at his sawmill and operating his skidsteer; he enjoyed time up north at his cabin in Crooked Lake; and loved bear hunting, and also deer hunting in Shawano. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was a longtime member of the Immortals Motorcycle Club; he was a member of the WBHA (Wisconsin Bear Hunters Assoc.) and lifetime member of the Larrabee Sportsman's Club. Rick always enjoyed the time spent with his family, especially playing with his grandkids, and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Karlene; son & daughter-in-law, Ricky and Stacy Koenig, Jr.; one daughter, Patty Koenig (fiance, Mike Behrmann); three grandchildren: Makayla Koenig, Mariah Behrmann, and Paige Koenig; and his mother-in-law, Phyllis Linden. He is further survived by his brother, Terry (JoDee) Koenig; two nieces, one nephew, and a special family friend, Mike Chevalier. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Betty Koenig; father-in-law, Norman Linden; and two sisters-in-law, Sue Thiel and Lynn Linden.

A funeral service, led by Christal Wavrunek will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024 at the Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home, 344 S. State Street, Mishicot. Cremation has taken place.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home, Thursday morning from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. There will be no Wednesday evening visitation.
