Margaret A. (Peggy) Englebert

June 9, 1937 — December 28, 2021

Margaret (Peggy) Englebert, 84, of Mishicot Wisconsin, passed away on December 28, 2021, with her family by her side.

She was born to the late Chester and Gertrude Johnson on June 9, 1937 in Algoma, WI. She graduated from Algoma High School in 1955 and received a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point in 1959.

She married Jim Englebert in 1961. After living in Lincoln and Casco, they moved to Mishicot in 1969. Peggy is survived by Jim, the love of her life and husband of 60 years; her five children, Lisa (Rick) Johnson of Indianapolis, IN; Brad (Chris) Englebert of Mishicot; Lynn (Steve) Strevell of Nashville, TN; Christy (Jason) Johnson of Darboy and Dave (Kelly) Englebert of DePere. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, Elle, Pierce and Ty Johnson; Becky (Kenny) Wooddell, Kasey (Evan) Gillmore and Luke Englebert; Jack, Matt and Elise Strevell; Noah and Brenna Englebert; and two great-grandchildren, Elijah and Wesley Wooddell.

Peggy was diminutive in size and never one to seek the limelight, yet she was a huge presence to those who knew her. She led by example and quietly demonstrated the ideal of Christian love. She loved to read, a passion she shared with all of her children. Her cottage on Lake LaMotte was a dream come true where she spent many happy moments with family and quietly enjoyed God’s natural beauty. Peggy was very involved in her community. In particular she was active in Wisconsin Women for Agriculture, involved in various book clubs, a volunteer at local schools and heavily involved at Holy Cross Catholic Church. She was dedicated to exercising and eating healthy before it was cool and was a master “re-purposer” before the word existed. Her kindness was unsurpassed and “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all” was an often-repeated phrase in the Englebert household. She loved to play games, but didn’t have a competitive bone in her body. In fact, she was known for pretending to lose to make someone else happy. She was frugal to her core but lived a life of deep generosity. When asked what happened to the new bath towels that were given to her for Christmas, she sheepishly admitted that she had given them to the poor. Her faith guided her every thought and action. She led a life of grace, class and integrity. She was someone to admire, emulate and love. She will be deeply missed and her memory and legacy will live on and be an ideal, for all who knew her, to attain.
