Harvey V. "Bootsie" Dvorak, age 90, a lifetime resident of Mishicot, went home to heaven on Monday, February 17, 2025.
Harvey was born in Mishicot on November 12, 1934 to Harvey J. and Evelyn (Hallada) Dvorak. He attended Holy Cross Catholic School, and graduated from Mishicot High School with the class of 1952. Mr. Dvorak served his country as a member of the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958 with the 101st Airborne Division and while enlisted was very proud of his 32 jumps. On May 28, 1960, he was united in marriage to Mardell Reif at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot. Mardell preceded him in death on June 23, 2016.
Bootsie began his working career as owner/operator of the Badger Grill in Mishicot and later became a truck driver with Dick Bros. Bakery of Manitowoc and retired from Eggers Industries of Two Rivers. Boots was a member of the Mishicot Fire Department for over 50 years, serving in many capacities over the years. He retired as a lieutenant of the department in 1996. He was a lifetime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot, also serving as an usher for many years; and served several terms on the Mishicot Village Board. He enjoyed spending time up north in Wabeno with members of the Mishicot Hunting Club for many years. In his younger days, he also enjoyed bowling, playing softball, deer hunting, and always loved following all Wisconsin Sports.
Survivors include his children: Brenda Yauger, Barbara Kopetsky (Steve), Ken (Geri) Dvorak, Sandy (Mike) Honzik, Dawn (Terry) Welnicke, and Doug (Brenda) Dvorak; his grandchildren: Toni Yauger Herrmann, Kurt (Brianna) Kopetsky, Karly (Jeff) Brown, Katrina (Logan) Polack, Shayla Dvorak (Allie Pendleton), Kyla (Benn) Zubke, Jordan (Matt) Erting, Alex Honzik (Liz), Allison (Daniel) Butler, Drew (Kaitlyn) Honzik, Trevor Welnicke, Sarah Welnicke, Ella Dvorak, Matthew Dvorak; and great-grandchildren: Truett, Madison, McKenna, Dexter, Lenni, Charli, Evelyn, Zackary, Adell, Jada, Delila, Mara, and two additional great-grandchildren expected soon. He is further survived by a special friend of the family, Adri Roig Sanchez; one brother, Norman (Annie) Dvorak; and several brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law: Delores Dirkman, Don (Mary) Reif, Rose Schetter, Marlene Keehan (John), Diane (Ken) Basken, Roger (Paula) Reif; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mardell; one granddaughter, Tara Yauger; one great-granddaughter, Kiera Brown; one brother, Jim Dvorak; father & mother-in-law, Elmer and Marie Reif; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Christian Raj, assisted by Deacon Dave Scheuer. Private entombment will take place later at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc. Military graveside honors will be accorded at the church immediately following the mass by members of VFW Post #7753 of Mishicot.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Cross Catholic Church Saturday morning from 8:30 until 10:45 a.m. There will be no Friday evening visitation.
