Francis J. Fictum, age 95, longtime Mishicot resident, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 28, 2024 at St. Mary's Home in Manitowoc.
Francis was born in Manitowoc to Anton and Emma (Skubal) Fictum. He was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, then served his country during the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Army. Francis furthered his education at the Manitowoc County Normal College where he earned his teaching degree. On November 22, 1951, he was united in marriage to Evelyn C. Roidt at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Evie preceded him in death on June 9, 2005.
Francis began his teaching career in 1955 at the Old School House in Mishicot, eventually moving to the new school where he taught Junior High for many years. He retired from teaching in 1987. Francis also worked with his father Anton on the family farm, and he helped build many houses with his good friend, Richard Lauduron. In his younger days he enjoyed bowling, and always loved listening to old-time polkas and waltzes. We will remember his favorite saying: Yabba Dabba Doo!!
He is survived by one daughter, Susie Kukoski of Manitowoc; son & daughter-in-law, Scott (Julie) Fictum of Mishicot; daughter-in-law, Karen Fictum of Manitowoc; two grandchildren: Derek (Nicole) Fictum, and Samantha Fictum (fiance, Abe); and three great-granchildren, Ben, Teddy, and Michael. He is further survived by two sisters, Mary Ann Barbarossa of Manitowoc, Pauline (Andy) Rosik of Whitelaw; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Emma Fictum; his wife, Evie; one son, Steve Fictum; son-in-law, Jerry Kukoski; one brother, Anton (Gladys) Fictum; brother-in-law, Guido "Vic" Barbarossa; and two nephews, Tony Fictum, and Gary Rosik.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at the Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home, 344 S. State Street, Mishicot. Rev. Dave Pleier will preside at the service, with military honors to follow by members of VFW Post #7753 of Mishicot. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Mishicot at a later date.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.
