Eugene R. Ramesh, age 89, longtime town of Gibson resident, died early Friday morning, November 4, 2022 at River's Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center in Manitowoc, with family at his side.
Eugene was born in Mishicot on September 3, 1933 to Wenzel and Mabel (Peot) Ramesh. He attended schools in Mishicot where he graduated from Mishicot High School with the class of 1951. Eugene served his country for two years (1956-58) as a soldier with the U.S. Army, serving most of his time in Germany. On May 18, 1963 he was united in marriage to Elaine Kostka at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Algoma. The couple recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.
Eugene farmed in the town of Gibson along with his brother, Dale for many years. He also worked for many years at the Manitowoc Shipyards until his retirement. Eugene was a longtime member of St. James Catholic Parish in Cooperstown, where he also served as an usher. He was a member of the Amvets Post #99 of Manitowoc, Maribel Sportsman's Club; and he enjoyed hunting, especially deer hunting; woodworking, and after retiring enjoyed traveling with many bus trip groups.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine; four children: Marilee Ramesh of Virginia, Jim Ramesh of DePere, Dan Ramesh of Maribel, and Amy Ramesh of Madison. He is further survived by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ronnie (Bonnie) Kostka of Luxemburg, Jeanne Pierce of Green Bay, and Judy (Steve) Gunnlaugson of Hudson, WI; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wenzel and Mabel Ramesh; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Mary Kostka; one brother, Dale Ramesh; and three brothers-in-law, Bill Kostka, Roger Kostka, and Donald Pierce.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2022 at St. James Catholic Church, Cooperstown. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Fr. Santiago Turiano, Jr., with burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by members of Amvets Post #99 of Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. James Catholic Church from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning. There will be no Wednesday evening visitation.
