Don Heusterberg

Donald Heusterberg, age 85 of Mishicot, passed away at home on Tuesday evening, December 31, 2024 after an eight week battle with lung cancer.

Don was born in Sheboygan on September 19, 1939 to Fredrick and Esther (Paul) Heusterberg. He graduated as salutatorian of his class from Howards Grove High School in 1957 then served his country (1957-1960) as a member of the U.S. Army, serving active duty in Alaska. After continued service with the Army Reserves he received his honorable discharge in 1963. Don also continued his education at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, earning a bachelors degree in education in 1964. He was united in marriage to Gerlaine Yoho on August 18, 1962 in Howards Grove. The couple was blessed with 62 years of marriage, and have been longtime members of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mishicot.

Don was employed with the Mishicot School District for 31 years where he taught mathematics and driver education, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, taking bus trips/tours, playing cards, and was proud to have created and maintained a statistically based football publication, called "Football Trends".

Survivors include his wife, Gerlaine; three children: Tracy Olson (Patty Faber), Kim DePas, Kevin (Ruth) Heusterberg; six grandchildren: Brandon (Taylor), Trevor (Jess), Josh (Saydi), Andrew, Amanda and Amalia; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Kathleen Glaser. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Esther Heusterberg; one brother, Richard Heusterberg; and one brother-in-law, Peter Glaser.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at the Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home, 344 S. State Street, Mishicot. The family will greet relatives and friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a service being held at 12:00. Rev. Joel Stuebs will preside at the service, with military honors to follow by members of VFW Post #7753 of Mishicot.
