Betty L. (Sloma) Honzik, 85, of Mishicot, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.
Betty was born on March 6, 1939 to Antone and Frances (Wozniak) Sloma. She married the love of her life, Harvey R. Honzik on June 9, 1962 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Pine Grove. Together, they lovingly owned and operated the Honzik homestead farm which they shared for almost 32 years until his passing in 1994.
Betty was a 1957 honors graduate of Denmark High School. She worked for Mary Morgan Mail Services for years, which afforded her several deep bonds and lifelong friendships. From there, she became a switchboard operator at the Green Bay Reformatory (Green Bay Correctional Institution) and shared many fond memories of her years working there. Betty then left her career to fully embrace motherhood, raising her three children while taking on farming responsibilities. Later in life, Betty returned to switchboard work at Holy Family Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc. Following the passing of Harvey, she devoted herself to her close knit family and meticulously maintained the homestead.
Betty was a long-time member of St. Isidore the Farmer Catholic Church in Tisch Mills, and a former member of their Rosary Society. She supported her parish as a catechism teacher, provided kitchen help during funerals, and managed the bake sale during church picnics.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Sandy) Honzik; and two daughters: Mary Beth Arnold (special friend, Dan Trestik) and Melissa (Tom) Huebner, all of Mishicot; “Grams” to four grandchildren: Shayna Koudelka; Alex (special friend Liz Swarczewski); Allison (Daniel) Butler; and Drew (fiancé Kaitlyn Campshure); and “GiGi” to three great-granddaughters: Jada, Delila, and Mara Butler; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey; father & mother-in-law, Wenzel and Anna (Stangel) Honzik; son-in-law, Rick Arnold; two sisters-in-law: Adeline (Joe) Tolksdorf and Lorraine (Ed) Mueller; a brother-in-law Eugene (Lucille) Honzik; aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Betty was an avid reader, crossword puzzle aficionado, and a huge fan of “Blue Bloods” (especially the family prayers around the table at the end of each episode). She enjoyed baking and made desserts for many special occasions throughout the years. Betty took great pride in her flower beds, indoor plants, and fruit trees, sharing many an apple, pear, peach, and grape with family, friends, and neighbors alike. While Betty loved being at home, her family took her on enjoyable adventures to Jamaica and Mexico.
Betty deeply loved her family and cherished every grandchild and great-grandchild's visit, with “GiGi” being known to share a few chocolates (many) with the “littles.”
A private service for the immediate family was held. Deacon Dave Scheuer presided at the service, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Tisch Mills. A Celebration of Life in Betty's honor occurred with her close family, friends and other cherished loved ones who were fortunate enough to capture her heart.
Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home of Mishicot assisted the Honzik family with funeral arrangements.
Special thanks to Fr. Mark Mleziva for providing religious support to Betty’s family during a difficult time. And last, but certainly not least, a very special thank you to Melissa (Betty’s daughter) for the years of dedicated, diligent, and loving support she provided daily for every need while caring for our beloved mother.
Dzień dobry Mom, Grams, GiGi, until we meet again!
